Port Canaveral has just broken ground on a 50 million dollar new cruise terminal. It will be located in a vacant area on the ports south side. The 187,500 square foot facility is scheduled to open in November 2014.
Commissioners of the Port have stated that the new facility “will be able to accommodate some of the largest cruise ships in the world.”
Port Canaveral has really been stepping it up lately revitalizing the port. I wonder if they are positioning themselves to make a play for one of the Oasis class ships that may be displaced when Royal Caribbean’s Anthem of the Seas homeport’s in Port Everglades.
As mentioned above the new terminal will be located on the south side of the port. They will build it on an old park that’s there.
The area doesn’t seem that large though so I made this photoshop to see what a vessel would look like berthed there. (the area is on the bottom right)
