Tradewinds (sub required) is reporting that Adam Goldstein has been promoted to president and chief operating officer of Royal Caribbean Cruises, ltd. This may seem confusing, but ‘Royal Caribbean Cruises, Ltd.’ is the parent company of ‘Royal Caribbean International’, where he was previously. All this means is that Adam Goldstein will now be handling the sister lines, Celebrity, Azamara, Pullmantur, and CDF, all in addition to his leadership role at Royal Caribbean International.
The article goes on to make an interesting claim. According to an anonymous analyst:
Today’s development will see Harvard graduate Goldstein work more closely with chief executive Richard Fain, marking him out as a potential successor.
“Adam would be a fine successor to Mr Fain, if and when he decided to step back or reduce his responsibility,” the analyst said.
So far, I haven’t seen any hints that Richard Fain had any interest in stepping down. Perhaps this is just long term planning.
It was last summer that rival Carnival Corp. had their long time CEO Micky Arison step down and essentially become not involved in their operations anymore.
