Part of what makes fueling a ship with LNG so difficult is the supply of bunkers(fuel). Every port where they need to take on bunkers must have an adequate supply and special equipment for discharging it into the intended vessel.
AIDA cruises newest ships will be duel fueled with both traditional fuel oil(bunkers) and LNG. In order to provide the LNG part, they are currently designing and constructing the barge (pictured above).
The project is being developed as a joint venture between AIDA cruises and Hamburg-based Becker Marine Systems. The Schramm Group will operate her.
