Celebrity cruises has been in the news in the past for offering the first apple store at sea, having an entire internet café of iMacs in the iLounge, and offering classes in Apple software. Well now you can add the iPad to the list. The “magical” tablet will give guests the ability to view menus and wine list at one of the Celebrity Eclipse’s restaurants, Qsine, and onboard all Solstice class ships, it will now give you art tours around the ship.
Guests will be able to launch a custom design app, (won’t be available in the app store I’m afraid) and be able to view the ships collection of art work. Celebrity ships have one of the largest corporate collections of contemporary artwork. The artwork is highlighted at its locations on the ships deck plans that are presented on the tablets 9.7-in screen. A guest can touch the artwork and see its location on the ship, title of the work, artist’s name, medium used, description and image. You can do all of this from the comfort of your cabin as well. The “revolutionary” device will be available on Celebrity Solstice beginning August 15, and on Celebrity Eclipse and Celebrity Equinox beginning August 21.
The three solstice class ships in service currently, the Solstice, Equinox, and Eclipse, have a total of 14,000 original works of art.
Celebrity’s Senior VP of Hotel Operations Lisa Lutoff-Perlo states,“Celebrity’s ‘Designed for you’ platform is built on our commitment to listen to our guests and offer experiences inspired by them and their sophisticated travel desires.”
My thoughts: wouldn’t an iPod touch be the better choice to use as it is more hand-held-friendly.
