The Tuesdays at Cruise Shipping (and before that Seatrade) Miami are the biggest. It all kicks off with the State of the Industry conference. Heads of all the major lines are on stage at once. Can’t think of many other industries where CEO’s are even in the same room.

- Carnival announced today that they are launching a comprehensive review of their fleet safety.

The company has assembled teams of fire safety experts, naval architects, electrical and mechanical engineers and engine manufacturers to conduct its own investigation.
- A focus will be on backup engine room systems.
- Carnival CEO Gerry Cahill finished up with saying the Carnival Spirit homeporting in Australia was “a big deal” for them.
- On the topic of the Eastern Hemisphere, Asian cruises and destinations are buzzing around the convention.
- In the past 10 years, Asian cruise capacity tripled.
- Royal Caribbean CEO Adam Goldstein stated that we can expect a big reveal regarding the Quantum of the Seas in the coming weeks and not months.
- The Third Oasis ship will be just like the first two, although a bit more fuel efficient.
- Silversea Cruises CEO Manfredi Lefebvre D’ovidio, stated that 2012 was not a good year for his line. Stating only 1% growth.
- NCL CEO Kevin Sheehan claimed that the Norwegian Breakaway will change the industry forever.
- Princess Cruises held a separate press conference to announce the final details of the Royal Princess .
