There was originally a rumor that the German ship Deutschland was going to be sold. Then we found out that it was sold, but the buyer was anonymous. Now we can say, with confidence that the ship was sold to american interests that will use her on spot charters and longer charters as the latest ship in the Semester at Sea program.
German operator Plantours will have her for four sailings starting next week. Their charter is up in August. Then the ship will enter drydock for conversion over to the Semester at Sea program operated by the Institute for Shipboard Education (ISE). ISE will rename her World Odyssey. This will be their sixth ship in their 51-year history.
