Easily the most anticipated port call on pretty much every Disney cruise is Castaway Cay. Now Disney may have a fierce rival to the Island.
Disney Cruise Line has just agreed with the island of Eleuthera in the Bahamas for the development of Lighthouse Point. This 700 acre property will be transformed into a private destination for Disney’s guests at a cost of around usd$250-$400 million that Disney will pay. In the satellite picture above, you can see that they will share an island with Princess and their Princess Cays.
The way the deal is structured, Disney won’t actually purchase the land as it was ‘donated’ to them. Disney has stated that the construction will generate 120 jobs and then the resort will be staffed with 120-150 permanent employees.
Disney developed Castaway Cay (often misattributed as the first line to do so) in 1998 and has been calling there ever since. With the new ships on their way, Disney has had to find additional private venues so they don’t overcrowd Castaway Cay.
