This morning marked a major step in the building process of one of the most highly anticipated cruises to be launched. Taking place in Papenburg, Germany, the Disney Dream received her last building block. Remember that ships are build like legos now. Shipyards will create huge, sometimes the width of the ship, blocks that are then lifted into the drydock. These pieces are then welded together and after that process is done, sometimes a couple hundred times, you have the hull and superstructure of the ship.
The Dream just completed those steps. The 260 ton piece was the last of 80 blocks. Next up for the ship is the completion of interiors, floating out of the drydock a couple of seatrials and of course, due to Papenburg’s inland nature, the daunting passage down the Ems river.
The Dream will be the flagship of the Disney fleet. She will have some incredible venues such as the Aqua-Duck water coaster, the Finding Nemo themes Animators Palate restaurant, and expanded children’s areas.
P.S. I heard that Captain Mickey Mouse was at the yard for the event!
