Carnival’s newest, and largest ship ever, Carnival Vista has recently been handed over from Italy’s Fincantieri. In our series of First Looks, which now replace the Inaugural liveblogs, lets take a look at Carnival’s newest flagship while she is on her maiden voyage.
The 133,500gt ship is based on the Dream class which is a modified Conquest class vessel. The Vista is the first derivative of these ships, originating with the Destiny class, to feature azipod propulsion.

Vista is currently sailing an inaugural season in the Mediterranean until October when she repositions to New York for two cruises. Then it’s down to her homeport in Miami in November 2016 where she will sail 6&8 day Caribbean cruises. She’ll pick up the Carnival Breeze itineraries since the Breeze is in Galveston yearround.

Starting at the top decks of the ship, on deck 15 there is an entire deck devoted to Carnival’s Sirenty adults only retreat. Further aft on Vista is an industry first, the SkyRide. It’s an open-air cycling experience suspended high above the ship’s top deck. Also nearby is a 455-foot-long water tube slide called Kaleid-O-Slide and a Twister slide. A 270-foot-long ropes course, an aqua spray park with a 300-gallon tipping bucket as well as the ship main pools round out the top decks.
Below decks are a 187-seat IMAX Theatre is part of the Carnival Multiplex on decks 6,7&8. Also included is the Thrill Theater, similar to a 4D movie theater.
Havana pool:
Havana Pool. This is the part that sticks out in the aft of the ship:
The ships main public areas are located on decks 3,4&5, just like on the Dream and Conquest class of ships. Unlike those ships, Vista features Havana Outside on deck 5. It’s the portion of the aft decks that feature the Havana pool, Havana Bar as well as Havana staterooms and suites. These feature a balcony that opens up to a private lanai.
Also on deck 5 is the Ocean Plaza, which debuted on the Carnival Dream. There are several bars on this deck also, including the Red Frog Pub and Brewery which features an onboard craft brewery.
On decks 4&5 are the ships main dining rooms, casino and the entrance to the main theater called the Liquid Lounge.
Main theater:
Unlike the previous class of ships, there is no 9-deck high atrium. The main atrium on this ship is just three decks high, but it’s been enlarged instead. It’s similar to Princess’ piazza-style atriums.
