While the countdown is nearing its end, there has been a last minute change to the refloating of the Costa Concordia.
Originally, the project managers chartered the Dockwise Vanguard to carry the Concordia to its final destination. It was originally stated to be a $30 million charter party, and would have included refits to the heavy lift vessel in order to carry her.
After it was announced that her final destination will infact be near by Genoa, Italy, the decision was made to cancel the charter party and instead, just tow it along the Italian coast. I imagine the cancellation penalty will be steep.
When she arrives at San Giorgio del Porto, the dismantling will take an estimated 2 years.
