As part of a 200 million euro project to modernize MSC’s Lirica class, the Renaissance Program will see the addition of a 20m long section inserted into the middle of the ship in a process naval architects call “stretching.”
The 350gt piece is currently being laid out in a shipyard in Sicily. A water park, 200 cabins and new venues will take up most of the section. When complete the gt of the ship will increase from 58,625gt to around 58,975gt. Her length will also go from 824ft to around 903.05ft.
Here’s the schedule:
- MSC Armonia August 31 – November 17
- MSC Sinfonia January 12 – March 1
- MSC Opera May 2 – July 4
- MSC Lirica August 21 – November 9
