Norwegian Cruise Line announced that they have ordered four ships from Fincantieri. The new ships are scheduled for delivery in 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025, with an option for two additional ships in 2026 and 2027.
Each ship will be 140,000gt and carry 3,300pax. This is down from the Breakaway-plus classes which are 167-168,000gt. They will also be smaller than the original Breakaway-class which are 145-146,000gt. Each ship will cost $850 million.
This news comes as quite a surprise as NCL recently has always built at Meyer Werft in Germany. Switching to Fincantieri marks a stark contrast, however Meyer does pretty much have their order books full with Royal Caribbean, Aida, and Disney.
