According to passengers onboard and AIS, subsequently confirmed by NCL, the Norwegian Dawn has hit a reef while leaving Bermuda.
The 92,250 GT ship was making her way back to Boston at the conclusion of a routine 7-day Boston-Bermuda cruise.
As of this post tugs are maneuvering into position to reposition the vessel in the channel so divers can take a look at the hull. It’s important to stress that the ship has not experienced an ingress of water and no pollution is reported from the ship.
Her ETA back to Boston has not been updated.
NCL Statement on the event:
On Tuesday, May 19th at approximately 5:00 pm ET, Norwegian Dawn temporarily lost power as the ship was departing King’s Wharf, Bermuda. The ship’s propulsion was affected and, at which time, the vessel made contact with the channel bed. All guests and crew are safe. The ship’s team is currently assessing the situation and we will provide more information as it becomes available.
