Russian port authorities have announced that they have time chartered NCL’s Norwegian Jade as well as the former Baltic, now Mediterranean, ferry SNAV Toscana for the winter Olympics. The ships will be used as accommodation vessels. This is pretty similar to what they did for the 2004 Olympics in Athens when something around 11 ships were chartered. This is the same concept, just not at that large of a scale.
The 2014 Winter Olympics will take place from February 7th to the 23rd.
No word yet on when the charters will start, or if there will be any repositioning cruises. The ships will be berthed in Sochi at a cruise terminal currently under construction.
