The MSC Opera was the same ship that broke down off the coast of Sweden. Following repairs in Gdynia, Poland, she sailed to Southampton, England to embark pax for her 8 night Norwegian Fjords cruise. Upon arrival, she was boarded by officials from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency. They released the below statement on what they found:
Various defects were found which meant that the ship was not fully compliant with International maritime safety regulations. As a consequence the MCA decided that it was necessary to detain the vessel in Southampton until such time as the owners were able to demonstrate compliance.
Captain Greybeard followed up stating that subsequent visits were made throughout the day to check on the status of the ship. It is unknown when she will be allowed to sail.
