France’s Compagnie du Ponant, or just Ponant, have announced they have agreed with VARD for the construction of an iced classed expedition vessel.
The ship’s hull and machinery will be constructed at VARD’s Romanian facility in Tulcea. She will then be outfitted in Søviknes, Norway with a scheduled delivery for the second quarter of 2021.
She will be fully iced classed, suggested to be at 1A, with a design by Aker Arctic. The ships main powerplant will be Wärtsilä with LNG fuel technology by GTT.
Ponant also has 4 ships on order that will be constructed in a similar way by VARD.
