The Sapphire Princess is a Grand-class cruise ship, launched in 2004 and operated by Princess Cruises. During her construction at the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries shipyard in Japan, she was initially intended to be named Diamond Princess. However, due to a fire that affected the original Sapphire Princess, the names were swapped, resulting in the vessel being named Sapphire Princess. With a gross tonnage of 116,000, a length of 951 feet, and a beam of 118 feet, the ship accommodates up to 2,670 passengers across 18 decks. Powered by a diesel-electric propulsion system, it can reach a maximum speed of 22 knots. The Sapphire Princess features 1,300 staterooms.
