Today Silversea and their parent company, Royal Caribbean, announced that they will build three new ships for Silversea Cruises. Silversea has signed a memorandum of understanding with German shipbuilder Meyer Werft to build two vessels in the new “Evolution Class.” The first of these will be delivered in 2022. At the same time Silversea announced that they will build a dedicated expedition vessel to be called Silver Origin in the Netherlands at Shipyard De Hoop. This will be a much smaller vessel and will sail only to the Galapagos Islands. She will launch March 2020.
It was just a matter of time before we saw the first order from Silversea, post Royal Caribbean. One of the reasons the controlling interests decided to sell to Royal was to gain access to capital and their shipbuilding networks.
