German line TUI Cruises have announced that they will transfer two cruise ships, Mein Schiff 1 (ex-Celebrity Galaxy) and Mein Schiff 2 (ex-Celebrity Mercury ), over to its sister-line, Thomson Cruises. This will greatly reduce Thomson’s average fleet age which is currently at 29. The transfer is tentatively scheduled to occur in late 2017.
Thomson is also looking forward to receiving the Thomson Discovery which is the former Splendor of the Seas.
TUI Cruises is a joint venture between TUI and Royal Caribbean International.
Fun fact: TUI AG also owns 22% of container line Hapag-Lloyd and at one point were the sole owners.
