Viking Ocean Cruises, the blue water expansion of the popular Viking River Cruises, have announced that they have agreed to another 2 more ships to be delivered from Fincantieri. They will be sisters to the Viking Star class at 48,000 grt.
Seatrade is reporting that there are a total of 4 ships, whereas Tradewinds is reporting 6 ship are now on order from the Italian Yard.
Tradewinds (sub. req’d):
The pair will be sisterships to the two ordered last December, the Italian yard announced today.
In all Viking now has six cruiseships on order at Fincantieri including two 47,000-gt vessels ordered in July 2012.
Viking Cruises and Fincantieri signed a contract for the construction of two additional ocean-going ships, bringing the total to four by 2017.
I think I’ll stick with the Seatrade article as they have a better journalistic track record. No knock against Tradewinds, but I’ve questioned their Passenger ship articles in the past.
