Virgin Voyages just went public with their plan to construct a new terminal for the Scarlet Lady opening in 2021. (The Scarlet Lady sets sail in 2020.) They plan on renovating terminal H which is currently being used for the ferry to Bimini and a USCG holding area. If approved by the city, they will construct an 100,000 sqft terminal capable of handling their ships.
Two interesting tid-bits Virgin Founder Richard Branson let slip is that the second ship will also call Miami home and they are currently exploring purchasing an island in the Bahamas.
The Scarlet Lady will be over 900ft long. Per PortMiami’s website that berth is 718ft. According to Google Maps measuring tool, it’s 725ft. Basically that berth is too small. Currently the largest ship to use that was the Bimini Superfast who’s LOA is only 668ft and she took up the whole area. There’s also several mooring dolphins that extend out from terminal G. So….
